The above is the original trailer for Bare Soles Bare Soul (BSBS), a 4-part series of intimate portraits which highlight the impact of African Dance on Black women in Oakland, CA. The women in the series reveal that their dance practice allows them to improve upon of a primary struggle: self-preservation. And therein lies the gem of BSBS. With dignity and vulnerability, these women maintain that they’ve practiced African dance for more than fifteen years each, in order to maintain their sense of balance, dignity and purpose beyond studio – in their homes, workplace, community and beyond.
